I learned from a very young age from numerous trips abroad that people live differently than I do in Canada. It was only after a trip to Kenya in 2012 that I confirmed to myself that although people may lead different lifestyles than me, their way of living is not necessarily wrong. By this, a strong knit community in a rural village in Kenya that is without material wealth is not necessarily "unfortunate" because they are wealthy in knowledge of the natural world around them, they are wealthy in familial values and so much more. However, I also confirmed that no matter how people live and no matter where they live, the one thing that is unfortunate is that many children are not going to school because of factors like:

1) not affording formal education
2) having to work to help feed their families
3) being far from educational institutions and not having access to reliable modes of transportation
4) avoidable illnesses that could be prevented with proper education about personal hygiene/sanitation
5) hunger and the lack of nourishment needed to fuel a day of sitting in a classroom

and the list, unfortunately, goes on.

WHAT IS 23.5ËšBOOKS?
I am currently a second year univeristy student at a Canadian university and when I look back at it, I lose count of all the incredible opportunities, experiences, and people that have instilled a love for learning in me. A quality education is the social interactions that arise from showing up at school, the teachers who become mentors and role models, the arguments and debates that are encouraged as a result of free speech and everything that goes beyond brick walls that encompass a classroom. So, here I am, hoping that others get the same opportunities because a quality education is a strong, powerful weapon that can help children choose their future. I am sharing my personal library of novels that have taught me to be open-minded and curious with my local community through book rentals to in turn generate funds and sponsor students in our global community. All funds will go towards necessities that will enhance the quality of education the students recieve like: school supplies and books, meals, health check-ups, transportation, and more. Updates about the sponsored students can be found under "THE IMPACT" in the main menu. Continue nourishing your love for reading by renting a book so others can read too.
